2. Knee pain not caused by injury

KNEE TRAUMA - CAUSED BY A CLEAR INJURY

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury
Usually non contact injury like landing or changing direction. Immediate swelling within 2 hours. Unable to carry on with sport after injury. Giving way since the injury.
Meniscal injury
Usually a twisting injury with the knee flexed. During a squat. Swelling comes later. Pain over the joint line. pain with twisting. episodes of locking.
Collateral ligament
Usually a contact injury or heavy fall with knee buckling. Pain on either the inside or outside of the knee. Sometime small pocket of swelling and bruising. Pain often with bending and straightening the knee.
urgent care
When to go to Urgent Care Centre - If you can't straighten your knee. If you can't weight-bear. If you are very tender over the bones in the knee. If you have pins and needles or foot weakness after a knee injury.
